I entered catacombs level 3 and my merc just randomly died. Nothing killed him, just died in the moment of entering the level XD

the poison option of the malice necro is quite crapy compared to the physical/magic option

pestilence works well if you're a melee necro , and use it as an extra source of damage , which gets boosted by the points into str and dex that you are all dumping there , but while being a caster , Pestilence is not much of an option to focus on , so it stays as 1-pointer . you can't just run around trough crows while waiting for it to kill something when you're made of paper .

rotting flesh on the other hand benefits from energy , but sadly it's damage is quite low , even if maxed , it's inferior to 1-pointer Boneyard in terms of kill speed .

for it to be a viable main attack , i believe it needs a higher AoE and more damage , maby also some pierce per hard point (at least 1 pierce per point) . -30% from dream eater is nice, but not enough

can't enter the antechamber on hell as malice necro , regardless what weapon or skill i put on. if i tp to town , i can't enter the tp back ... i've tried resetting the map , but i got the same result : https://www.twitch.tv/videos/544844622

In Kurast there are enemies that teleport you when they hit you. In normal they teleport you and cast an exploding chest at the point where you are teleported from. In nightmare they teleport you and cast the exploding chest at the point where you are teleported to. Is that intentional? Because as a newbie, I found that really confusing. Once I reached nightmare I didn't want to move after being teleported because I was teleported to a good location and then I suddenly died. I think this inconsistency is bad because at first it took me quite some time to understand what exactly happened until I found out it's completely different.

Also, Spirit of Vengeance has an awful AI. It just poofed on me 4 times in 60 seconds because it kept attacking some random enemies and didn't teleport back to me. That alone made me waste a respec to use paragon instead.

Also there is almost no good gear for stormcall zon. There are only items that are meant either for fire zon or for melee storm zon. So I run with low-defense choices like TU boots and TU sash and TU Coronet. So for now it's not a problem (I'm act 5 nightmare) but I can see this becoming a problem soon, since there are also no good runewords and the set is meant for melee storm zon again (though I think using 2 parts could be very useful).

Also, Hammer of Zerae doesn't show any synergies under the "synergies" part.

Tbh, I was just thinking about this yesterday. I would like to see the BRC Punisher skill moved into Rotting Flesh's place on the malice tree and a new BRC skill put in place since it's basically useless to a lot of builds. Maybe a passive with - enemy poison pierce and/or physical resist since necro seems to have to get all of it from gear.

fal rw helmet is great early and midgame, tu war axe, tu ancient armor, tu setzschild for defensive options, ornate gloves with 2 zon, light spell and pierce, tu sash to benefit both phys magic and the lightning part. + you get good pierce and energy off the passive alreday, so that should put you around 60-70 already from basic gear.

Well, what you list exactly confirms what I said. There is nearly no gear that buffs both, the physical and the lightning component of the damage, except the gear that gives you about 0 defense. So you have to choose between physical spell damage, lightning spell damage and/or defense.

I dont know why you are so fixated on defense. You have fire elementals to tank for you. Not to mention that most casters have bad defense, because casters are not meant to facetank damage.
