I decided to pull a Wotan for some free XP too

Image

The most annoying thing about mission 6 of the mt clans is that all my party deals Water based damage and blue dragons are immune to it... so I had to slave through a pair of these with just my hero to get some goodies

Image

This giant became ultra OP after 2 capital clears - 60dmg unresistable frostbite per turn lol

Btw Wotan, how hard are the "expansion" missions from Gallean's return? (those that require at min a lvl 10 hero) I'm thinking of importing my dude and giving them a try, after I finish the main campaign, on very hard as I am playing on hard atm.

60 is nothing :) 150 is the cap and I always reach it :) Capitol guardians just melt :D

The missions arent hard although its been awhile and I dont quite remember them. The game is all around easy when you know what to do. You need to just learn how to lure out the computer otherwise he might reck you. There are some custom made maps that are very hard. You should try the deamons missions imo they are the hardest. I don't know if you know this, but a map or a saga has a default difficulty. It could be @ medium meaning the enemy starts with less upgraded creatures and buildings than for example very hard. The very hard option that you can choose is the penalty you receive and it makes the AI a bit smarter. So in all campaigns the final saga is set at hard by default. There are maps as I mentioned made by fans that have very hard by default and the enemy is very tricky and has enormous amount of characters with upped creatures and they gain xp very fast.

ps. The elves have very interesting and rich saga. If you havent played it - do it.

Alright, that's news to me I didn't know there was some sort of hidden map difficulty as well - I never played the game too extensively to learn all the tricks and such.

Will defo try the inferno campaign after I finish the wotania + expansion missions, if you recommend it. I guess that campaign is just hardest because the legion's units are the worst? Seems like warrior lord is a must with their weak sauce melee 1 slotters and no healing.

And yeah I remember playing the elves campaign years ago back when I was a nub and got my ass handed to me in the middle missions before I gave them up :D

Iirc, you have to protect Uther at all costs while legion of Undead Hordes will try to kill him. It's harder to do than in a vice versa camp for necromancers where you have to kill Uther instead.

Legion is tricky, especially as caster. The caster character and all castle casters do fire damage which is problematic with some missions. Both the warrior and range character are great. A nifty trick when you play a race without healers and CC, is starting as warrior and then during the campaign rerolling to a character you want ( ex. caster).

@SB

About the Elves saga... You should know that the first mission is the hardest mission of all the sagas. Its really challenging, but the more your progress, it gets easier, but they do have 2-3 very challenging missions in their saga.

Yeah I'll try Legions after I'm done with the dwarves and then maybe Elves if I still feel like playing.

Atm I just finished the 2nd expansion mission of the gallean's return campaign for the clans. This campaign is definitely a step up in difficulty from the original one, the final boss was also pretty cool - a 2k life summoner who has a party with a lvl15 death & lvl 15 archlich and every turn summons black dragons in double slots and ancient vampires in single ones. Was kind of lucky that my party was super pimped vs single target dps as I did not see that one coming at all - I only expect a big boss fight in the last mission of the campaigns

BTW turns out the cap is 128 for frostbite dmg:

Weird. I am almost certain that the cap is 150. I remember it being total of 450 damage for Son of Ymir.

Started the elves saga today. Its the most rich and hard of them all.

Well shit, I've been playing this game like 15 hours straight.

Rolled legion caster too. Being able to nuke an enemy group into oblivion before the fight even starts is pretty life saving, although a fighter tank would allow some different party setups.

Thats the beauty of it. Having different setups. For caster with 3 leadership, ideally you would want a Gargoyle and a warrior, but certain missions and certain situations require 3 additional units instead of 2. Keep in mind the less units in the party the more exp. Also whenever the putrify guy is available you should always pick him, he is basically a capitol conqueror. So with 4 leadership ideally you'd have putrify guy, gargoyle, your char and a melee. When you have enough hp and armor on your character you can put him in front, not for back spot sake, but to take blows for your low level units when fighing big trolls and such.
For legion best character is the ranger, he can better utilize the space (leadership points). The best for necromancer is the ranger as well ( even tho he seems terrible at the beginning). Best for humans are caster and ranger. Elves - caster and ranger. Dwarfs - ranger and melee.

Well technically you don't need the petrify guy to clear capitals as the Legion any more if you are playing on the Rise of the Elves (latest d2 version). There the overlords got buffed and deal 30 blister damage as a DoT and also have 50 initiative, which makes them absolutely great.

And yeah the game is pretty awesome. I remember I didn't enjoy it that much when I was younger because of impatience probably. I'm also on the Legion campaign now 3rd mission I think. On the first one I decided to check out the witch (polymorph) and my party turned out pretty weak (caster leader, witch, 2 berserkers) so I could not actually kill any of the comp's main leaders as they both had 2 upgraded crossbowmen in their parties and decimated my back row as soon as battle commenced. So I had to bait them all the way next to my capital with level 1 leaders & summons away from my main guy who was exping in their territory undercover until the messenger came along

Next two missions I think it's pretty crucial to utilise the Bethrezen kid in active duty because the comps seem to start with 5+ rod planters and by week 1 have control of all resources. So you really have to hunt those bitches down, while your main is busy farming xp. He's also good when you have pretty much pacified an enemy, because his party can easily clear out their weekly new heroes. I used to do this with spells only with the mt clans (valkyrie is amazing and only 150/150 mana), but the legion spells suck donkey dick compared to the clans. Every mission takes an extra 20 days because no free 100% movement speed restoration per turn
