Are summons still effectively "res capped" at 50% res in Hell, or can it go higher now b/c of the res penalty reduction?
(I know it's not technically a "res cap," but Idk what else to call it.)

I'm down to thinking nothing but potions will work for either of my characters, but before I give up on healing afix's I figure I'll pose the question here. I'm pretty sure with the caster druid there's nothing to do but potion on bosses, and 'on kill' for packs.

The one I'm not sure on is my assassin. I'm using the APF-20 Maelstrom and Singularity. It seems like something should work. But the way the things I'm finding read, absolutely nothing does. I'm sure I have to be reading something wrong somewhere....or at least I hope I am.

There is no question asked, but ill try to answer. Life leech works only with physical weapon damage. Singularity is a spell, and maelstrom has 90% of its weapon damage component converted to magic, so it basically does no physical damage to leech from. Life on attack works only with melee attacks, once per hit, and life on striking works with weapon attacks every time you hit an enemy, so it sounds good for builds that multihit a lot, like maelstrom, but sadly its values are just way too low to do anything.

Well that's incredibly discouraging. But thanks.

Off to level one I go, and try doing the least fun thing in ARPG's.....melee........ so I can have access to healing LOL.

Life after kill can keep most builds alive that cant leech. And bosses have a damage divisor, which divides their dmg taken by that amount, and it increases with lvl, so leech will do nothing on bosses and you are stuck with potions again.

If I just play the game and sorta build my character the way I want to and learn as I go, will I be strongly underpowered and unable to enjoy the later stages of Median XL? I usually have zero problem just following a step by step guide, but I've been having trouble finding one that really feels good to me.

It's not important to follow a guide. For one, if u're on single player, you wont have the equipment to follow the guide so you'll probably get stuck somewhere around levels 110-115. That's where most of TU's you'll be wearing get weak.

Norrec787 wrote:I've been playing my old school favorite and go-to, the Bowazon. But I have to say, so far I'm not a giant fan of Median XL bow skills. It has gotten a little better but I'm still so so on it. I also looked into my second favorite, the Paladin, but I'm really not a fan of the "evil" form that most builds seem to focus on. It's not very Paladin. I know I need to think outside the box, but meh.

I'd stay away from Paladin. Gets tiresome very quickly. Some people like buffing every 10-16-30 seconds, but....eeeeeh. Bowazon is not really my kind of character either. Squishy, very easy to die. What I found good is Assassin. Now people usually say it's squishy, requires skill, no HP. I don't agree with that, she has access to Avoid and is in fact very forgiving character to play. Bowazon isn't. Casters are also ok to start.
In my case, I was happy when I managed to create a character that can farm Duncraig. With drops there, game gets much easier.
Sure, you might get lucky (or are very persistent with shrine crafting) to have a gg drop for your build in Toraja. My first such drop was
Habacalva's Legacy
Habacalva's Legacy
Eagle Orb (Sacred)

One-Hand Damage: 35 to 36
(Sorceress Only)
Required Level: 100
Required Dexterity: 171
Item Level: 105
Dexterity Damage Bonus: (0.11 per Dexterity)%
Flamefront: +3 Maximum Projectiles
-(11 to 25)% to Enemy Fire Resistance
-50% to Lightning Spell Damage
-50% to Cold Spell Damage
-50% to Poison Spell Damage
+(8 to 15) to Living Flame (Sorceress Only)
+(8 to 15) to Pyroblast (Sorceress Only)
+(8 to 15) to Flamestrike (Sorceress Only)
+(8 to 15) to Flamefront (Sorceress Only)
Socketed (2)
; hence I created a fire Sorc. Managed to get to Dunc, where I found items for builds I actually wanted to play.

Norrec787 wrote:So to revisit the question, if I just play the game and build what sounds enjoyable as I go, will I be unable to successfully run endgame activities if what I end up with doesn't really follow any of the builds out there? Will it just be too underpowered?

You likely won't reach endgame on your first character, even if you follow a guide. Play whatever rings your bells. Check out the skills on characters, see what's appealing to you and your style of gameplay. There's little reason the play a character regardless of it's power if you don't like it.

Does the energy of the current version not matter?
For example, how much damage can 1000 Energy bring?

The formula for energy to spell damage is shown here https://docs.median-xl.com/doc/concepts/spellfocus
Just take the first part (before the + sign)

Okay. I know for a fact that I'm going to be playing a bowazon. However, I'm also going to be playing every other class, which I've never done in my (very) limited time with Median, years ago. Anybody got advice for a rank newb for very early game gear, builds, etc.? I'm talking early Normal difficulty, as everything I've seen on the forums so far seems geared towards much later in the game.
