Ancient Magics Mod
For Grim Dawn.
Update Gameplay video 9/21/2016

(I know this would go under other games, just want this to be on topic list for motivation/ and to spread the word) :)
All of the skills ive done so far are displayed in spoiler as gifs
Ever since playing MXL for the first time years ago, I wanted to mod some sort of ARPG. Only problem? I has the dumb, and I was far too lazy to read guides on how to go about it. But Grim Dawn is absurdly easy to mod, so i'm taking a stab at it :oops: . I plan on having all as follows;

1.) All new Masteries;
Every single skill will be thrown away and replaced with an entirely new one. I find that most convential ARPG skills are insanely boring (fireball? pls.), and all the new skills will be aimed at one single thing. Fun. Besides, as Median has taught us, you can make pretty much any skill mechanic as long as the numbers are right.

All skills will have their hardpoint cap at 30, with each 10 levels, granting a perk. For example; Frenzied Pitfiend tier bonuses;
level 10, the pitfiend gains a berserk buff he casts on himslf before every battle.
At 20, he gains a 6 charge attack that increases his overall speed by 20% per charge.
At 30, his attacks will generate spinning blades around him that pierce and hit enemies from all angles.
I've gotten rid of the lazy skill modifiers, because that's just lazy in my opinion. You can make every skill self sufficient, and have more room for additional skills.

All skills will start at lvl1, and will gain exponential bonuses (increasing returns), so you can have your build from the start. No more annoying grinding to play the game the way you want to play it. This makes balancing a huge challenge, but if anyone remembers the first time they picked up Median, that mod didn't scream balance at all. And it was extremely fun. That being said, I will make each skill suffient enough for endgame.
3.) Reworked bosses
While the bosses were pretty good, I think their character design and concept were boring/ uninteresting. With the rework, i'm aiming to swap out their mesh with new ones, and completely change their skill scripts. The goal is to make them... cooler. And the difficulty of the bosses will be increased.

4.) All new items
This promise is a bit staggering to me. This part is where I feel will take the most thinking and modding work. But I plan on tackling it. The items have to synergize with the new skills, and the current set aren't cutting it. Besides, could I really call this a Median ripoff if i'm too lazy to change out classic items?
5.) Increased Difficulty
In the core game, trash mobs spawned as CharLevel* -1, but trash mobs will start out as +4, and will go one additional higher per monster tier. This increases the pace of the game dramatically, and promotes much faster leveling, but these monsters will wreck your life.
6.) Mercenary System
Whilst the core game has no mercenary system, i'm making all Hero monsters have a chance to drop an amulet componant that will allow you to summon them as allies. This will promote farming certain hero monsters to get the specific one you want to compliment your build. There are over 100 hero monsters in the core game, and will likely add more after the initial set is reworked. The hero will scale with player level, so you needn't worry about upgrading.
I'm still working on certain ideas, but before I share them, I have to make sure they're possible and fit the game.
All this being said, modding is a lot of work. Not only that, it's very rarely fun. It's great to see everything you've envisioned for the game come to life, but a lot of times, it's just so boring. I work on this in bursts. I mod for an entire day, take a day or two off, and repeat. It may be a while before this is finished, but I figure telling people about it and showing prgress will keep me motivated. Now, let's get to the fun part; finished skills.

I will be needing testers very soon for the Grim Dawn mod i'm making, and if you own the game, and this sounds appealing to you, let me know if you'd like to be one of the testers.

I ended up changing the vast majority of the skills as I learn more about the mod tools. All of the new classes are nearly done, 30 new skills (or more) to every class, with class only skills, and a huge potential for variety with dual classing.

Classes come in six new flavors- War, Skill, Hell, Shadow, Mental, and Death.

War

As you likely guessed, this will be the tree that is most associated with the classic fighter. Innately, he has 20 damage reduction, and starts out with elemental resists. But I have plans of making him feel a lot more unique than classic class based fighters. Some example skills;

-Ancestral Retribution
A toggled buff that allows a 5% chance when struck to call an ancestral giant to stomp, crushing your enemies under his feet. Higher levels let him stomp additional times, increase proc chance, and makes the attack more powerful. Doesn't bet from pet or player bonuses, but scales with you as you level.

Warband- A powerful weapon damage attack that can proc warriors to fight along with you. These warriors scale by themselves as you level, and will not scale with pet or player bonuses. These warriors will stay with you until they die, and they do not interfere with melee playstyle. Can have up to 6 at a time as you level. These warriors will burst spawn.

Crushing Impact- This attack has 100% knockdown of up to 3 normal enemies for 1.5 seconds. Does 3/2 weapon damage, and has a 5% chance on kill of sending you into a blood frenzy, increasing overall speed by a percentage.

Shower of Rocks- Yeah, a totally unique and new skill nobody has used ever on median yet because of how original it is and stuff. On attack, powerful and large rocks will rain from the skies onto your enemy, with a chance they will fumble their attack. Does 100% weapon damage, and a 5 meter range.

Mortal Wound- A deadly thrusting attack that requires a sword. Can stab through up to 3 people in a line, or 25 degrees of eachother, causing massive bleed damage. 1.5 second CD.

Berserk- A toggled aura that grants the ability to berserk when health drops below 15%. While in this state, enemies flee upon striking you for a time, and grants you bonus physical and critical damage, while increasing overall speed

Groundbreaker- A powerful stomp that knocks enemies down in a 6 meter range for 3 seconds. Deals strong damage. Has an 8 second cooldown.

There are an enormous number of completed skills, and this is far from all that is done atm.

Mental- You can expect powerful lightning storms, meteor barrages, tornadoes, various niche builds for melee and ranged, powerful raven pets using chain lightning attacks, and charge up a powerful channeling beam to clear the screen.

Shadow, you can expect Dual Dagger builds, assassinations, phasing, throwing knives, dodge, and mirror image shades fighting with you.

Death, you can expect to have your necroskeletons, your skeleton king, powerful totems and auras

Hell class, you'll be able to summon a very powerful mage with many spells, a powerful and quick Voidfiend, You can channel massive amounts of powerful ravens, or have a proccing demon guardian to completely destroy surrounding enemies, or conjure suicidal mages to circle around you and cast a suicidal lightning blast that kill them and enemies, open portals underneath enemies feet, and a large number of others.

Skill tree, you'll be proccing rockets, fragmented bullets, grenades etc. You will have powerful turrets, chance on kill to summon a powerful but timed firing squad, all with very high overall speed.

The skills are essentially all done, and the bosses. Still have a number of hero's to make (which will use all player skills, and they will have a chance to drop an amulet to use them as mercenaries), and various items. Endgame has yet to be entirely considered, though i've an idea on how to keep the endgame fresh, where so many rpgs lose me with their endgame.

Incase you havent played it yet, I love how varied skill tree design in Titan Quest mod called Paths.

It wasnt that balanced but the skill design made me feel like I was playing median mod for Titan Quest.

Havent gone through your stuff here, but I think you can get couple of ideas from there.
