400 is the ideal (if you man handle that), anything above 400 only increase the chance for better items a little. with Lem crafted jewel I have gotten:
+2 to all attributes, below the minimum.
no + to all, just +3 vitality, +4 strength.. strange

You can definitely play without trading.. I wouldn't mind a restricted server like that. TG is pretty straightforward, 10 is worth $1, can be obtained by donations, use it wisely..
