I would rather stay away from all fancy lookin stuff, like splash hit things. It just reminds me of the abomination called Diablo 3 and all the future-gen MMORPGs.
And that boss bar looks too... clean. You should make it dirty, meaning use various shades of the same color and just kinda have it randomized. And I'm not sure how I feel about the picture :S
This is cool, really, But seeing this pic, I have a question, is it possible to toggle the conventional health bar on top of the screen on? I mean, some stats like "spectral hit", "stone skin", "fire/cold enchanted" or immunities or blah blah, where will they be if the old health bar is gone?
Ignore the balrog only having some black bar on the screenshot, the lifebar code isn't done yet. The conventional bar will still be there for most of monsters (although it will be improved in a few way). Only some special cases such as act bosses will have the boss fight bar. Besides any relevant information can still be displayed with this bar. In the case of act bosses they usually have no actual immunities or special boss mods.

I heard Sigma might include built-in resolution options like D2multires. Could be wrong, though.
