so when making solar flare I wanted a skill that looked massive. So here is kind of the progress ...
First try - massive fire field with outer ring. But that flame missile is kind of overused...
The skill looked clunky as hell tho, specially on big mob areas. And I kind of wanted to avoid lagging, so went with smaller flames. And actually found out you can make a square out of missiles if you give them enough speed so that they will travel backwards. Also after 5s timer was done, it would explode in a fire nova.
RIP
So I wasn't too happy since a square wasn't that impresisve anyway. So I tried to make something like a field with more "distinguishable" patterns, so to say. At this point I was like, ok, the skill should be finished.
But then I was like... no, those lod flames aren't that impressive. So massive change on gfx. Here you can distinguish the inverse nova, because its four semi circles next to the other. Not something we see everyday.
Until then, the skill had no name. Then suchbalance suggested "Solar Flare", which I loved. And then I thought, this skill needs a sun... And tried to see where it looked the best.
Seemed pretty good, but those big smokes were not all that nice and while in the middle of the crowd they ddid look sort of messy. So I tried different sizes,
I ended up moving the sun at the top, and the final result was here. By the way, those fire thingies were spinning , in the same way the skill looks today.
A few days passed and I checked the skill and was like hm... why would a "solar flare" skill be based on clouds of smoke anyway? So I was like fuck this, trying new stuff from scratch. I tried to make something cool using the sunbeam asset, but meh they dont look all that good.
So, diff approach, this one looked decent. But same problem as before, it's just too big and weird, it would look messy combined with other skills. It had to be more simple.
And eventually, all graphics changed, missile chain reworked from scratch to avoid extra lag, and finally (after
8 hours) the skill was finished.
