Well that's some news. Curious where this will take MXL, but congrats regardless. Passion projects turning into something that contributes to real job and life experience is many people's dreams.

Maybe one day I'll be able to play a MXL standalone spinoff. There had better be goblins and rainbow rods.

However, I'd be concerned with a game studio taking on a blizzard game (even tho it's heavily modded). I just hope blizzard doesn't come here and shut it down. It's different when hobbyists are modding a game, versus a business/company modding a game. I'm sure you've done due diligence to ensure this is "okay" and Activation/Blizzards won't be knocking
Excited to see all the new stuff that will comes from this. When should we expect the first release/patch from this new team?

This.

Exactly the thought that went through my mind on reading the announcement. I seem to remember the MXL team were getting "cease and desist" letters from Blizzard lawyers in the past, so this commercialisation seems likely to stir up that old hornet's nest. On the other hand:

1. If the game is still free, including free of MTXs, then they're less likely to care.
2. I seem to remember there was some degree of collaboration between the MXL team and Blizz in later times, so perhaps there's enough goodwill now to avoid problems?

"chances for shutdown of tsw are same, mod will continue to exist forever. also blizz has reached out to us before to help with d2r, so they are aware of its existence"

Super awesome news. And this is the best part of all of that. MXL unlinked from D2's limitations would possibly be the best ARPG.

That's awesome, glad to see more people joining the team, as I was kinda afraid how long the development can continue purely based on people spending their free time to do that. Though as much as we love our D2 & MXL, I am now afraid that the D2 engine will simply continue to hold things back from what's possible, and with an actual game company behind I hope that at some point in the future there will be work on something stand-alone that is more future-proof. Congrats and best of luck either ways.

Marco, that is incredible news, and congratulations! I am very excited to see what games this company churns out and will absoultly purchase whatever your team creates!

Having said that, I hope your team borrows many aspects that have been implemented in MXL, and many of them are top notch in any aarpg!
