There're several differences: damage reduced is simply reducing your damage (obviously), while life when struck working like.... let's say, phys WDM absorb. You need to survive hit before it will heal you (if your hp is 50, life when struck 100 and you get 100 weapon damage hit - you will die ofc, but if you have 200 hp, life when struck 100 and take weapon damage of 100 - your life will first go down to 100, then you will be healed for 100 hp and negate damage taken as result) Flat phys dmg reduced also applies BEFORE % one while life when struck applying AFTER all the damage calculations so it potentially better than flat PDR (but PDR working on spells also while life when struck not).
