MXL is heavily reliant on custom assets, code, etc... even assuming nobody cared about multiplayer, there is no way to port or rebuild mxl there. I'm not sure what you're hoping here.
If, hypothetically, the team would decide to move to D2R you'd be mistaken in expecting anything coming out resembling MXL, both in scope and content.

Its SP only, yeah. Another important thing to note is that as far as I know there is a very small limit of custom models that are possible to add too. Since we can't currently actually add new models the workaround is to replace and use testing models. With that limitation in mind if someone really wanted to they could try to port over the last version Laz did, Omega v003. The source files are relatively easy to find. It's just not worth the time for most people with the skillset. At a certain point if you're going to put in that much work it makes more sense to just make your own mod while maybe implementing some ideas from Median. Omega v003, and Ultimative are pretty rough around the edges.
