Great guide. I opted to go slightly differently in my leveling. I leaned a bit heavier on the percentile fire damage and innate elemental damage bonuses we get from the tree. Better or worse I have no idea, but different, might appeal to others if they're interested.

rest into colosseum (at least to 5sec cooldown for 100% duration uptime) -> spark of hope (mainly for duration because I'm lazy but the extra speed is awesome) -> elemental wisdom (since we're leaning into the fire aspect, this is a substantial dps increase)
Merc:I'd choose either act 1 (doesn't really matter which but I prefer priestess), act 2 (fighter-mage), or act 3 (necrolyte).
Reason being is that all 3 of those can do slows/CC. The slower and more controlled the battlefield, the easier your life will be as melee. Your damage and tankiness are already pretty high so you don't really need those.

Aside from Act 3, you want to gear the mercs with items that have slow, stun, and procs that slow or weaken enemies in some way.
For act 3, scale his cold damage and cast speed so that he uses his stuff more often.
For all mercs, give them res, phys res, life.
