FIrebloods are only really an issue the first time you die to them. Once you know to watch out for them you can dodge the fireballs no problem. The same can't be said for your merc unfortunately. That's only true if you play ranged / summoner. Any melee char will get rekt by these guys at one point...

I think barb is the most "flexible" class out there. He can be powerful in every playstyle: melee, summoner, range, caster, tank.... And he has access to some pretty good cheeze tactics. If you really want ONE build though, I guess Treant druid and melee sorc are solid choice. I play solo ...
