. Btw being MXLU and Sigma different projects, once the latter is completed, will be there servers for both versions to play online?
They will fuse somewhat. Sigma is more akin to a new version of d2's engine. It fixes bugs, removes limits and, most importantly, provides additional modding facilities, but you wouldn't be able to appreciate what it actually achieves without some way to use those fixed or new features. There's where Marco comes in. Even if you take current MXL files and put it on top of what whis is doing you wouldn't end up with a significantly different MXL version. Yes, you would have a nicer GUI, expanded resolution, drop filters and whatnot, but that's about it. Sigma does *much* more than that but you need to actually develop a mod that is able to use those things.
So, as I see it, MXL: Sigma will be a MXL version that will make use of the features whist developed in this new engine. From an end-user perspective it'll be "just" another MXL version, so I wouln't see any reason to have concurrent versions and servers. But of course, I am neither a developer nor a modder nor an admin, so I can't speak for them. But I'd be very surprised if MXL 2016 / 2017 / whatever is not discontinued when Sigma will be out.
By the way @whist, how far would you say development is for an initial version you can deliver to Marco? I know it's a shitty question by you said many times that most of the remaining work is GUI code, and you seem to be pretty good with that. What, do you reckon, are the outstanding issues you need to tackle before you feel confident enough to call the inital version ready?
