it has indeed a huge aoe and decent damage , but nowadays it is just outshined by too many other options (spaming Cataclysm for example - it also shoots nice fire balls and has no ND ) .
you may try 2x

if you go as a necro . it needs those extra points to be viable in end game .
people usualy like spaming a spell if going as a caster . spells that have a timer /big next delay are usually skiped .
you may try it for fun , i'm sure there are a few builds to suit that spell , even if you use it as a secondary/support spell . it doesn't have to be mainstream , you always get more fun with non-mainsteram builds .

yea, i can understand the no ND thing. kinda shitty to have to wait on a spell timer when playing as a caster.
but there's just a definite cool factor to covering the screen in meteors
don't think i can get to it anytime soon, though.
too busy with lazydin main and summoner necro to farm toraja...probably gonna have to make a pouncezon or something as a dedicated farmer, too. not to mention all the other fun looking builds in median...
good to know it's viable tho
