Poison damage sucks, we all know that is hard coded into D2.
But I still try, with melee barb.

Using the %150 modifier of Whirlwind (I mean Windform), poison hits harder. Dual wielding
Blacktongue
Blacktongue
Flamberge (Sacred)

One-Hand Damage: (101 - 119) to (110 - 130)

Item Level: 105
Strength Damage Bonus: (0.16 per Strength)%

+25% Bonus to Poison Skill Duration
+(120 to 160)% Enhanced Damage
+(40 to 60)% to Poison Spell Damage
-(20 to 35)% to Enemy Poison Resistance
+(14 to 20) to Amatoxin
Slow Target 15%
Maximum Poison Resist +(1 to 2)%
Requirements -50%
Socketed (6)
with socketed Po elemental runes adds numbers that make the LCS go so weird.

I have no idea what is helping or hindering my poison damage at this point.

Can someone please help me learn the math?

If you have multiple poison dmg sources, their ddps adds up together, and their duration averages, and the lcs shows the total dmg done by your attack, so the total dmg done by a single attack might be lower because of lower poison duration, but the dps will be higher. Try using the d2statsreader to check how much posion dmg you actually do.

A) Don’t socket Poison runes. You need -34 speed for max hits on windform (dual wielding/one-handed), so using Sha runes or IAS jewels will be the biggest DPS boost. I recommend
Demhe

Demhe
Maces, Scepters
Except Hammers

'ZodLew'
Runeword Level: 110
25% Chance to cast level 35 Infected Roots on Melee Attack
+(126 to 250) to Maximum Damage
Stun Attack
+(172 to 200)% Enhanced Damage
+(39 to 45)% to Cold Spell Damage
-(39 to 45)% to Enemy Cold Resistance
+(39 to 45)% to Poison Spell Damage
-(39 to 45)% to Enemy Poison Resistance
20% to Vitality
+(51 to 125) Mana on Striking
+15 Life after each Kill
in a Flail for the mana on hit and proc in the main hand, with Blacktongue in the offhand.

B) stack -enemy poison resist and %poison spell damage. You can do crafts, runewords, or sacred uniques, but these are the best increases for your damage.

C) Amatoxin + Windform are probably enough poison sources. No need for anything else up through 125 level Ubers.

D) Your best defense is life on melee attack and a ton of defense along with mobility.

I'm really confused here.

Istaryu tells me the same thing that is labeled as 'outdated' on these same forums (serious changes since that was accurate). I know how it used to work, then all the item based poisons went from 7-9 seconds to 1-2. The math changed, I want to know what it is now, not 18 years ago.

Crash has obviously never experimented between dual wielding and single weapon with shield on Whirlwind (Windform) or Danse Macabre (assassin O-skill).
There is a reason this ability is available for the only classes that can dual-wield, it just works better.

As much as I appreciate a Shining Force avatar, I'm looking to hit with a big long poison, not multi-hit with phys dmg, so I don't know why massive attack speed matters. Thanks anyway Nahuatl.

I'm using a dual item setup.
Metalhead
Metalhead
Great Helm (Sacred)

Defense: 2420 to 3551
Required Level: 100
Required Strength:
1250
Item Level: 105
3% Chance to cast level 10 Stormblast on Melee Attack
3% Chance to cast level 10 Shower of Rocks on Melee Attack
Ignore Target's Defense
Adds 1-50 Lightning Damage
+(1000 to 2000) Defense
+2 Life on Striking
25% Bonus to Defense
3% Reanimate as: Random Monster
-5 to Light Radius
Requirements +100%
Socketed (4)
allows me to forget about dex and attack rating, I continuously WW through everything and it just dies. I don't back and forth on a single target/mob. I switch gear for attack rating (bosses don't work with 'ignore defense').

Thanks for all your input, but I don't think anyone has landed on the info I am looking for yet.

you asked for the math behind the poison damage on LCS , istaryu has gave you the answer on how does the LCS show you the numbers .

you also need to focus on having enough -enemy poison resist

what else do you want to know ?

A Median XL guru... a true book of knowledge
The real question here is: why would you care about lcs damage of windform hit, if these swords will proc aoe poison nova (rotting flesh)?
You want spell damage and pierce to boost that, also you want cap windform speed to proc these as often as possible. Poison skill duration (not added damage over x seconds) also affects it, but depending how often you proc these novas, might be not needed/wasted.
Flat poison damage also has no effect when it comes to spell procs, will only add to poison duration via wdm, such as snake stance and poison added during windform by the skill.
Ignore lcs damage, because it only hits individual targets, even if you'd manage to reach very high weapon poison damage, there is no good way to spread it via ww. If you add Aoe from warmonger helm, it will spread wapon poison but via whatever %wdm AoE is, it is not gonna be 150%, that only applies to individual hits. And WW by itself has no area of effect, it can only hit one target at time, not faster than every 2 frames, while dual wielding iirc.

The first line of that reads as "Poison damage explained (outdated)" so um... yeah. That explanation was written about 10 years ago, When LazBro was only editing a single file, not the hard code changes that Median incorporates today.

And as for procs aerial, you can only proc 'on attack' once per activation of windform, regardless of distance traveled and number of hits. We all already know that windform means hold shift continuously and just move the mouse cursor. Striking 100 times with a single windform activation may proc on striking multiple times, but only 'on attack' a max of 1 time.

I one-hit non-boss mobs, just windform through everything, with high slow% (45% from items + Snake Stance slow, for 95% at max Snake Slow, which I'm not at)). I just want to know how the poison via weapon damage equation works now, as it has changed.

Oh and Aerial, my windform + snake stance + amatoxin damage is way better than the rotting flesh proc, it just helps with AoE.
