My bad, since you wrote summoner I thiught you weren't referring to "The Summoner" but to a summon character spec you advanced till Nightmare. Is this a newly created character or one you created in 1.2 and started playing in 1.3? Have you used some tools that alter the game files? Have you tried with a new character?

brand new characters too. patch is up to date, no error messages in log , on 4th character still same thin all created 1.3.2 single player

No tool used then?
Close the Launcher and delete "MXL.mpq" and "d2sigma.dll" (located in your Diablo2 folder), then restart the Launcher and press "INSTALL".
After you've done try to obtain the catalysts again.
