INTRODUCTION
Patch 2.0 brought us a brand new barb tree: Windcarver (whirlwind). WW was previously held back due to its limited amount of monsters it could hit as you went through enemy packs. Gale Force is a brand new passive that fixes this issue by doing splash damage everytime a weapon touches an enemy.

This new AoE tool paired with WW’s single-target dmg capabilities makes the build viable to complete most of the games content with limited gear. This guide will cover physical dmg WW barb. Due to its large pool of good items, tankiness and linear progression, it is a very SSF-friendly character.

HOW TO PLAY
  • For Farming: have WW on left-click and cast it using the shift key. It prevents accidental namelocks.

  • For Bossing:
    • Have WW and Shower of Rocks (SoR) on right-click.
    • Simply hold right-click down while switching between both skills.
    • SoR automatically targets adjacent enemies. You just need to hold right-click down and hover over enemies. You don't need to click on monsters.
    • WW around your target following a triangle pattern (tri-WW).
    • Don't do short WWs. Fully go through your target and stop right before you're out of weapon range.
    • Ideal rotation for highest single-target dmg: SoR → 3 WW → SoR → 3 WW, repeat.

    The set is super strong and worth using, especially if you find boots with low move speed. Dethroning it will require several lategame slots. Playing SSF, you should find all pieces around lvl 125-135.

We use Runemaster as a reward skill (gives high defense per rune socketed in gear), so we want to always socket a rune where we can. Always use indestructible weapons (zod rune/zod-crafted jewel) because durability degrades fast on 4fpa. Keep picking and upgrading runes until you're stocked.

  • Weapons: Gul (until 4fpa) → 1 ZodJah (2h axes) or Elq (all other weapons)
  • Armors: EldKoMalElq

JEWELS
Runewords require jewels to fill non-rune slots. Jewelcraft using Sur rune (life on melee atk). Make a handful of Zod rune jewelcrafts (indestructible) for weapons. Keep jewels with 2 or more relevant affixes.
    Relevant affixes: atk speed, atk rating, str, all attr, life, max/min dmg. (stop rolling at ilvl 86)

    Tips before starting
    • Runes can no longer be downgraded, so pick them all up. You can stack them with Vessels.
    • Open all chests you find in Act 1. They're a good rune source.
    • Pickup bloodstones, ambers, onyxes (they're gems) until you have 12 perf of each. They're useful for some ubers.
    • Pickup and stockpile 20+ jewels. They're used to create sockets and runewords.
    • Pick up actual gold stacks. Vendoring items doesn't give anything.
    • Do all quests. They have good rewards that will help your progression.

  • Consume gold signet in your inv. Buy white/grey armor from vendors (ideally all 1 socket). Gamble Ono weap.

  • Farm Mephisto for arcane shards.
  • Gamble the following item bases → make them uniques (item base + 2arcane crystals + blue oil):
      Tier2 Great Sword (get 2 of these, 1 in each hand)

  • We keep Cain armor and “eth” belt because resists are good.
  • At lvl 49, last call for a free respec from Akara if you made a skill/attr mistake.
  • After Baal 5th wave, take tp & grab Sunstone charm ( video ). Mobs hit hard → WW around the edges rather than going deep in packs.
  • Once Baal is dead (before nightmare) → farm Nihlathak → disenchant uniques into shards → make the following:
      Both Tier2 Great Swords → Uptier to Tier3 (item + 1 arcane crystal) [don't go to Tier4 yet]
      Tier2 Fanged Helm → Uptier to Tier3 → Uptier to Tier4

its stated in the skillplan that gale force comes at sunstone charm. but i added a "(level 50)" right after, ty for feedback :)

sunstone itself might be a bit of a challenge but its a timerless uber, so even with a handful of deaths theyll still get it eventually. SB also said that sunstone req will eventually be removed (engine limitation). iirc he said removed in 2.1 or 2.2.
