My general guideline on the topic for early game goes as follows:
Lvl 6 1 point into electrofield (+keep putting all on Energy), then, if I dont 1-2 shots everything with electrofield, I keep upgrading it's skill points. In act 2 (sewers) 1 point into fireball cleans the place with maxed energy. From now on then, I keep fireball at 1-3 points and maxed electrofield, tf, avoid, shadow refuge and energy. Sometimes, if I get TU's I put some points into dex/str, but for the first 4 acts I dont need them, you can clear with
