I got this working today by doing the following:
Go to d2 install directory (Program Files (86)/Diablo II/) and create the new subdirectory, and put the 2 files in the “latin” folder.
Go back to main directory and make a shorrcut of Game.exe
Open the properties of the new shortcut. In the target field, add “ -direct” after everything else (No quotes / Outsise the existing quotes).
Now you can double click the shortcut and the fonts should load. To use the MXL launcher and have it work, you need to open the launcher and go to Settings, then in the bottom click Application Data- to go to the app settings directory. Find the json file, edit it and change Direct = false to Direct = true. Now, using the mxl launcher should also work.

These are the exact instructions I gave in the OP. But I am glad you could help someone understand ;]
well, there is no data folder in my D2 directory. So that's probably the issue I dont know. I'll make a folder and see what that does.

altoiddealer wrote:Indeed, I was also a bit puzzled by having to create the "data" folder along with all the other nested folders.

Modifying the .json file is only required to make the fonts work while using the MXL launcher.
This is pretty important info b/c I think everyone uses the launcher :P

Thanks for the feedback, I understand where you are both coming from now. Yeah you need to CREATE those folders if you dont already have them. I will change the instructions, Thanks!

I am stuck waiting for someone to update the tools im using. I am not able to fix the current issues at the moment without an update. I thought it would be much sooner.

Also, which font would you like? I can feel for you if you have eye issues, one of my best friends has glaucoma and has trouble seeing text on the screen. If you choose a font and I can get a hold of it.... I will make you a custom font.

wow thanks i was taking about the D2 remake font in the beta its pretty much a HD version of the OG font in my eyes.. not sure if its a custom or what but i really liked it and even though i love MXL i will 100% be playing the remake.. but i also really love the genshin impact font called HYWenHei-85W. but it wouldnt fit the theme of the game though but i use it as my clock font. the numbers look nice.
i do have really shit eye sight though i do need glasses, but the ones i have are 20 years old... and my right eye is 20/20 but my left eye is 40+/20 lol my little brother when he was 4 years old punched me in my left eye ball and it fucked up up so to speak... its like 40+/20 but like 25% blurriness when my right is closed... his little fist was just the right size lol. I also have my pc on a 48 inch led... I really wish this mod would get true widescreen one day.. ( looking at a monitor for 30 years probably hasn't help either lol

Why do my colors look so scuffed? its hard to tell the uniques from the rares from the whites. Seems like all the colors are washed out.

This is how they work, but some letters are too high and overlap with others. You would have to center them. The third and last look the best.

I'm using d2dx instead of cnc-ddraw and the fonts look nicer and colors better imo.
