HELLO! :) just wanted to say hi, as I'm getting super bored with D3 (haven't played in years) so I decided to take the plunge, buy D2 and join this awesome community! What should I know before jumping in tomorrow? I've played a bit of D1 and D2, but not as extensively as D3 and PoE.

read the changelog and documentation really well and make sure you understood how item creation/item update is done (the cube recipes/cube reagents) .

As Chuck said, check out the change-log and Docs.

The documentation will be getting an update soon, but most the information should stay the same. Just click on the Game drop down menu, click on docs, click on items, and click on cube recipes and check it out. Also, I wouldn't be too afraid of hopping into the game as is, and getting a feel for how it plays. The launcher should set everything up correctly for you if you follow the instructions. If you installed Diablo 2 to your program files, some people have had issues with that, I'd move it to a folder on the desktop or else-where. Here's the link to the launcher, be warned, it's still in Beta there may be bugs. Make sure you have everything set to compatibility mode for windows XP and always run everything as admin.

I would say to not bother with learning cube recipe's quite yet, nor learning the oskills and items. Things are changing pretty dramatically. Just stick around and you'll get the hang of it with the rest of us.

But for a more serious comment... reading the documents will help immensely as there is a lot of information to learn. And the community is very friendly so if you expirence any problems or need a hand the community can help you out. They have the knowledge and expirience for almost any issue.

I'd say pick up a character right now and start playing so you get a feeling how the mod plays out (it is quite different from d2 and/or d3). I guess the feeling wont change much but you might want to get used to it a little bit. Experienced players dont have to do anything right now, so maybe there is someone online who can show you some of the basics, I learn a lot more by actually seeing whats happening instead of just reading all the stuff (especially because its way too much for one read).
After you got some feeling and know whats happening ingame a little bit, start with the basic stuff from the documentation (cube recipies in particular).

At least that was my approach when I startet playing Median.

Oh, and if you have some questions about a specific topic: There is the "Short question Thread", ask your question there and you will get an answer there in no time. Most of the really experienced players are quite active here on the forums.

Well, the reason why I said to skip out on the docs for cube recipe's, items, and oskills, is because they are entirely outdated for the release coming in 15 hours. The devs have an incredible workload, and it's not feasible to expect it to be updated on release.

I agree. I was just joking because it was your 666th post. But ya when the documents are updated (sometime after the patch drops) then It will contian 95% of the information anyone player needs. SO many short questions are answered by "did you look in the docs? Because then answer is there"
