Your PlugY.ini file likely has DisableBattleNet=1 set. Change the 1 to a 0 and see if that fixes it.

For those who did not manage to fix C0000005 ACCESS_VIOLATION, and tried the:
"Open Explorer, right-click Computer, Advanced System Settings, Advanced tab, Settings in Performance section, Data Execution Prevention tab, choose Turn on DEP for all programs and services except those I select, Add, find Diablo II.exe and add it, Apply."
... without any success. Try my solution below.
You have to disable DEP completely in your OS. To do this:
1. Run cmd as an administrator
2. type: bcdedit.exe /set {current} nx AlwaysOff
3. reboot

Hello I have followed all of the steps to fix error 2239
- Make sure dll files are in Diablo II folder and not blocked by windows/antivirus (right click -> properties -> unblock).
- If using PlugY or D2SE, make sure PlugY.ini has this set DllToLoad=MXL.dll
- If using Launcher 0.2.7, try deleting patch_d2.mpq and clicking 'install'
- Run the game as administrator
None of the dll files gave me an option to unblock
"make sure PlugY.ini has this set DllToLoad=MXL.dll" I wasnt sure which files as there are multiple plugy.ini files. If I change the one inside of MODS - Medianxl folder it causes D2SE to close and fail to launch D2. Changing DllToLoad=MXL.dll on the other plugy.ini files did not work.
I am very lost, as I feel like I did a good job following all installation instructions, yet I cannot solve this error.
