No and No. Morph only gives IAS for two minutes. I am lazy to cube a lot of those potions and i have high IAS anyways, plus visuals are meh.
Items don't suck by themselves.
Maybe user who is using them sucks. But honestly items give everything you lack from skills and charms and vice versa. Rerolling option, crafting option, tempering option - they give a lot of potential to any build. The only thing that might be lacking is procs, but this is not median so no "xzbiti - yo dawg we heard you like proc, so we put more proc so you can proc while you proc" thing. You can get some proc on weapon and maybe when struck on armor which is good enough. Early game items have low values so it might look bad, but latet you can get things like:
16% to all attributes on belt (maybe more but 16 is what i got max so far)
up to 10% max rez on rings/amulets
5% proc on weapons/armor
up to 25% max poison rez on belts
up 10%? max rez on armors
and so on.
So just gather rerolling glyphs, check tempering/crafting options and improvise.

It's one of the harder mods to start. The "insta kill abilities" remain through whole game but you can counter most of them with correct gear or correct aproach to specific situation. In early game try to gather as much gold as possible, buy skill tomes and xp tomes as you can. Farm act 1 for low lvl sets, they help out a lot.
