I lagged and the game crashed with my paladin, now I can't create or join games, I'm able to with other characters. Any reason why this would be?

Some kind of server crash. Your character is probably stuck in that previous game you were in. Wait a few minutes for it to catch up and log out.

No it's an oskill so it would need to be casted by your merc, which he can't do.

No it's an oskill so it would need to be casted by your merc, which he can't do.

Bloodmage uses Gift of Inner Fire, but Inner Fire is a different skill, so no, I don't think it will work.
