The guide says socket the weapon with 1-6 perfect rainbow stones which are gems. They have nothing similar (just the visual graphic) with 1-5 jewels which have to be socketed before you put a run into the weapon.

I'm sorry I'm pretty new to D2 and totally new to Median. I know I have to put 5 jewels in before the rune to make the runeword. How are the perfect rainbow stones to be used?

Woops, I misread. That part of the guide is specifically talking about a non-runeword crafted bow to be used at max level, hence socketed with gems and not jewels. My mistake, sorry.

I'm brand new to this mod and just started playing an Amazon on single player to get a feel for it. Does this game have any absolute rules I should know? Like in D2 how it was always a waste to put points into Vit unless you were leveling your first hardcore character?

Also, are the any skills/classes that should be avoided due to either being super weak for the leveling process (it's my first) or bugs?

Assassin is notoriously hard to play untwinked and without a lot of skill. Energy is useless for most characters. Depending on the type of Amazon you're playing, certain skills blow but others are amazing. Like Barrage from the Bow Tree lets you easily walk up to middle of Terror (Nightmare) with no problems and few deaths when combined with Ecstatic Frenzy.

Wyrmshot needs a lot of points before it's useful. Barrage is a great early-mid game skill.
There are no "rules" and you can do whatever you want. Generally, only barbarians/pallys put points into Vitality.
The life gains per lvl are huge compared to cLoD. On top of that, amazons have an uber skill (Paragon) that can basically get you thousands of vitality.

Stormzon is apparently not so strong, but spear/java/bow zons are great. Javazons/spearzons are probably easiest to start from scratch with. Bowzons are too easily killed in late nightmare/hell.

Bowazons are easy to start with, but after finishing mid/late Terror, make the switch to Java/Spearzon like Asteroth said, since Bowazons are glass cannons.
