Can someone explain me Necro Deathlord penalty? I understand about minion life, but what about defence stats on items?

defense won't be touched. Only minion life is 50% less effective.

EDIT: sry read that wrong.

Deathlord adds defense in addition to your def on items. Say Deathlord adds 50 k def and you already have 30 k def from your gear, you have a total of 65 k, because the def of your items is halved.

Deathlord adds defense in addition to your def on items. Say Deathlord adds 50 k def and you already have 30 k def from your gear, you have a total of 65 k, because the def of your items is halved.

So avoid, dr% and flat dr are not affected?

Deathlord have no penalties except for minion life and some kind of other minion defensive stats (resist?). Instead it boosts defence based on total str AND dex (can't be higher than 32k def added) + this bonus is affected by TCD.

Let's say you have your own 100 str and 100 dex (fully naked with 0 def), then you cast Deathlord and added 100 more str and dex + 1000% of total str dex added to def. In total you will get 200 str, 200 dex and (200+200)*10=4000 def.

Now let's say you put some points into Death ward and got 200% TCD so now result will be 200 str, 200 dex and ((200+200)*10)*3 = 12k def

PS: Here's pair of pic examples about how deathlord working with def (fully naked to prevent confusing def from items with def from morph):

Upd: Just tested it: "minion life and defence stats on items not mean base defence but... mb, minion resist? Defense of items staying untouched sinc my testing shield adds same def value without Deathlord and with it (casted it while wearing shield and value was the same).
► Def without shield and Deathlord

► Def with shield and no DL adding 6858 def

► Def without shield under DL

► Def with shield and under DL adding same 6858 def

0 physical/magical, 15 fire/cold/lightning and 5 poison on Terror
0 physical/magical, 35 fire/cold/lightning and 20 poison on Destruction
Resistances of Bosses on Destruction: (15-35)% physical/magical, (50-70)% fire/cold/lightning, (40-Immune)% poison

I'm aware of how much destruction difficulty adds, but does this mean that -135% lightning resist is the highest effecive pierce on normal mobs, or will -300% pierce even more?

as gekko said, monsters and bosses can only be dropped to -100 resist. the amount of pierce required to set them to -100 depends on the monster/difficulty/boss. -135 lightning will cap all monsters in destruction at -100 since no monster has above 35 lightning res. Some bosses (mostly the old heroics like QT, Kabraxis, DBaal, etc) can have up to 70, so -170 will be the cap for them.

excluding immunes, which can't be pierced without a skill that lowers their max resist (starfall on that ssu mace, mythal druid skill, spellbind zon skill, bane necro skill, phase bomb assassin skill, etc)
