Introduction
Javazon is a hybrid ranged physical attacker that can tank, kite and farm in equal measure. It has a strong set of basic tools like fast move speed, many slows, rapid regeneration, and max block, which makes much endgame content a breeze without any need of respecs. Its playstyle is easygoing and forgiving with only one buff to refresh, allowing for focus on aiming and positioning.
tl;dr FAQ
I'm looking for the best build for x/y/z, is this it?
- No, this build's defining feature is being mediocre at everything.
What's the appeal then?
- It's got a good set of endgame/anti-Purify tools, doesn't rely on leech, can be played lazily, performs OK with cheap/mostly TU gear.
This early game is really slow, what gives?
- Each new skill unlocked is a big power spike, same goes for getting gear. If you're slowed down by mana issues use mana regen MOs or sapphires in your weapon.
I keep dying pre-Hell, what can I do?
- 1. Cap resists with jewellery MOs/perfect gems
2. Reach 174% hit recovery/block speed
3. Keep Moonbeam up (when practical)
4. Kite/avoid damage/use summons
5. Uptier gear
6. Improve life total/use flat DR mystic orbs
How do I best improve my damage?
- Get higher raw physical damage i.e. %ED, min/max/adds damage mods.
Paragon or Curare or SoV?
- Paragon default, SoV endgame with lots of flat +life, Curare for Fauzt clearspeed.
Is Ricochet good?
- Not unless you're overgeared and kill everything in a couple of casts.
Is it worth putting hard points in attack skills for damage?
- No, Ecstatic Frenzy scales better.

Javelin Tree
Moonbeam: Attack + buff that reaches 50% physical resist with soft points and provides a lot of regeneration with hard points. Deals 100% weapon damage with 50% magic conversion, bonus magic damage and infinitely pierces.
We keep the buff up at all times (once the duration's good enough). Main attack until level 12.
Ricochet: Bouncy javelin that deals 60% weapon damage, 50% magic conversion and bonus magic damage.
This skill allows us to hit multiple monsters rapidly/repeatedly without a corpse. However, its damage output is pretty poor and we have other options for spreading slow. It also requires 10-15 hard points invested at minimum to become effective (and is best maxed).
I don't use this skill at all, but it is a possible spec given that we run a lot of spare skill points.
Enfilade: Javelin that spawns a ring of blades that move in and out in a spiral pattern. Does 100% weapon damage and bonus poison damage. Multihits rapidly (25/sec?); high DPS by Javazon standards and makes procs go off a lot.
Its weakness is that it's very precise for a Median skill. We need to direct hit something with the initial throw and after that the AoE is small.
This is our basic spam skill and damage skill versus bosses.
Moon Queen: Javelin tree devotion passive. Gives us deadly strike, life after each kill, attack speed and a massive amount of %enhanced weapon damage.
Fairy Ring: Corpse trap which vomits 33% weapon damage, 50% fire conversion projectiles at nearby targets.
Low individual DPS compared to Enfilade, but lasts for about 6 seconds giving us an opportunity to move up and chain cast more of them. Can do a ton of damage when stacked in dense areas.
Neutral Tree
Wild and Free: Faster hit recovery with soft points and movement speed with hard points. Scales pretty badly, but extra move speed has become incredibly valuable in Sigma due to its rarity.
Fire Elementals: Summon. With levels in Spellbind, these can tank some areas well even with no minion gear. Good boss distraction too.
Ecstatic Frenzy: Gives 40% move speed and 150% attack speed but sets defense to 0. Adds flat magic damage to attacks.
We will be keeping this active in 99% of circumstances. The attack speed opens up our gear options by allowing us to reach a 9 frame throw more easily. Since our inherent defense sucks, the move speed bonus is way better for survival anyway. Can be used as a skill point dump for bonus damage.
Defensive Harmony: Passive slows attacker/slows ranged attacker with hard points and uninterruptable attack chance with soft points. Also benefits Fire Elementals.
Ideally we want the slow value to be equal or higher to whatever slows target % we have on our gear, since the two types of slow will fight with each other. 15 points for 50% is normally enough, but slow on our gear can go higher sometimes, in which case we'll want to invest more points.
Reward Tree
Paragon (Ultimate skill): Provides bonus VIT per socketed gem. Effectively increases our life max by 6-9k. Allows us to take full advantage of Moonbeam regen. The default choice for most situations since we'll be using a lot of perfect amethysts.
Curare (Ultimate skill): Adds a lot of passive poison damage to weapon. This skill isn't our first choice, as improving our life pool is much more effective for levelling and bosses. Once we have lategame charms, our max life will be high enough that Curare becomes a viable option.
However, it's still hampered by the low WDM modifier on our skills (which reduces the poison damage dealt by the same factor). Javazon doesn't have many ways of getting around this besides one specific SSU weapon which will be mentioned later on.
Spirit of Vengeance (Ultimate skill): Summons a spirit that casts Sacrifices with random reanimates and has an aura that grants +%max life and +%spell damage.
The oddball choice of Ultimate. Useful to free up sockets for magic find jewels when farming, +life jewels in lategame, or high-end unique jewels if you're really rich. Naturally works best with many flat +life bonuses or hard points in VIT. The random reanimate type is unique to the Spirit instance and can be very powerful if you can be bothered to roll a good one.
Spellbind (Ennead reward skill): Awesome curse that slows, weakens and lowers physical resist in an area. Synergy bonus with Fire Elementals that increases their life total by 15% per level.
War Spirit (Black Road Challenge reward skill): Buff that causes us to emit 40% weapon damage spike novas and gives us bonus crushing blow. Useful for spreading slow/procs.
Other
Bloodlust: Innate buff that improves our damage and that of all friends nearby.
Jitan's Gate: Teleport accessed with the Moon of the Spider charm. Can be improved with a lower cooldown with other charms.
Summon Edyrem: Summon accessed with the Crystalline Flame Medallion charm. Used to remove invulnerability from enemies in Toraja.
Purify: Projectile spell accessed with the ring Assur's Bane and the charm from Uldyssian. Used to damage several invulnerable bosses.

Heartseeker
Generally useful mods and a nice oskill. Final damage is a bit lower than it appears due to having a worse damage:DEX bonus than a Maiden Javelin. This item is exceptional in Curare builds due to the 90% WDM on Maelstrom Mk1, which is better than we can get otherwise (besides Enfilade).

More gameplay tips
- We use our movement speed from Wild & Free and Ecstatic Frenzy with various slows to avoid melee hitlock and kite monsters. We also benefit a lot from reanimates to take the heat off us and allow us to focus on attack spam.
- Huge Moonbeam regen and %PR allows us to sustain through random hits from missiles/spells/etc easily. Potion tanking can be very effective when we're forced to eat attacks. Moon Queen also provides life after each kill, so if we can potion tank a horde long enough to start getting kills then we can snowball heal through all of them. This is especially effective in areas like Duncraig or Vizjun where we'll be mobbed after making a teleport jump.
- Use Spellbind! It lowers enemy physical resist and their physical damage output by 40% as well. This can be the difference between life and death.
- Fire Elementals get surprisingly tanky with a few levels in Spellbind and are pretty useful as a distraction. Reanimates are better for general farming.
- Improving our max life pool has a dramatic effect on our survivability due to the interaction with Moonbeam. If you're taking too much damage, try increasing your life total.
- Having 0 defense isn't normally a problem since we can at least partial kite everything and avoid taking too many hits. But there's a problem when we're faced with totally untargetable enemies since we can't slow or curse them. This is a flaw in the build and weakens us in a couple of specific ubers. If you can't deal with them, come back later with a bigger life total so you can tank better.

- The angel bosses have some stupid AoE with their ranged attack which can be hard to deal with. Clear out the other enemies, then blink on the angels or use minions to bait them.

- Bit tedious with 0 defense and the buffed Guard Tower duration. You'll want to fall back and wait for the towers to go away every time a guard dies.
- Jitan's Fortress spam will destroy you at range so blink on him instead and melee potion tank him.
Akarat (easy)
- You just need enough damage to beat his Inner Fire healing. Or luck. Try to stay away from reanimates so he/his followers don't proc it.
King Koth (easy)
- Tower arrows or getting stunned by Bear Claws will kill you, so try not to get hit at all. But everything else dies fast too.
- Try running to an edge of the map and slowly pulling the enemies.

- Nothing here is threatening.
- This is a great place to farm. Shrines, set items and rare jewels/rings/amulets all over the place. You can build up signets quickly if you're not set on hoarding.
Bull Prince Rodeo (very easy)
- You can potion tank everything he does. Just keep following him around and hitting him.
Black Road Challenge (easy)
- Be careful of the ranged cultists; their unholy bolt storm thing hurts a lot.
- The boss fight is cool and not very hard. Put Spellbind on him while he's in the circle, then kite and work through his minions. Watch and listen for his nukes.
Tran Athula (easy)
- Reanimates pull their weight here.
- Start backing up as soon as you see the cloud of an Arrowside proc. You need to respect these because they're liable to desync and instakill you even if they don't look like they're aiming at you. Same applies to Phalanx.
Legacy of Blood (easy-medium)
- Never stop moving. You're only going to die if the Immolation Bombs go off under your feet (they spawn when a Golem dies). Be patient, spam Enfilade and clear the room safely.
Khalimgrad (easy-medium)
- Take it slow and avoid the Punishers shot from the totems.
- The Ethereals can proc Inner Fire on your reanimates/Elementals and heal the Avatars, so it's best to pull them close to the Avatars a little bit at a time.
Cathedral of Vanity (easy)
- You can take a few hits from the Crystal Ball beams and they fire in a fixed pattern. They'll go off after a few seconds so take that opportunity to attack.
- Once the Ball is gone Inarius will spawn; avoid him and kill the Nuns to get some reanimates to help tank, then deal with him. Avoid tanking his attacks, they hurt.
Asmodan (medium)
- The main level is nothing special. Go to the bottom left to find the boss area.
- Most of Azmodan's stuff can be potion tanked, but Flamestrike/Fortress + the Molten Boulders from Firebloods need to be avoided. Supermax fire resist if you want.
- The biggest threat is getting bodyblocked by all the invisible summons and dying in some really dumb way, so be patient and don't take too many risks.
Rathma Square (medium)
- Crawlers don't have usable corpses, so no Fairy Ring or reanimates.
- Primus' Bladestorm will kill you REALLY fast if you eat the whole thing. Use Fire Elementals to distract him. Use TPs or the stairs to resummon if you need to.

Baal (medium)
- The biggest obstacle in clearing Dunc deathless is the first teleport jump. We can avoid doing it at all by using this spot in the north-west to blink to the boss area and run the level backwards. Since doing this won't aggro the boss unless you go too far right, it's useful even on your first attempt.
- Slain Souls can be slowed en mass which makes them easy kills. You can get hurt by Necromorb missile spam but it's not an issue if you keep moving.
- You will survive barrel explosions. They can be blocked too or eaten by Fire Elementals.
- The teleport sections can be dealt with by immediately casting Spellbind and doing some smart kiting. Souls are weak enough that you can hide in a corner and tank them until your teleport comes off CD if you need to. That said, you might die if the density is too high, so open a TP first.
- The boss is no problem. Circle around him a little distance away so he spams spells but doesn't Pounce on you and he's pretty much harmless.
Triune (easy)
- Kinda similar to Dunc and easier. Don't get hit by a meteor; nothing else is a problem.
- Enfilade will whiff on the Spires so use Moonbeam instead.
- The boss is a weird gimmick that will annoy new players. You need to get the Tome of Possession from the top end of the map, go to the back of the southeast palace and pull Lucion to Malic, then keep charming Lucion so he dies to Malic's life burn missiles. When Lucion gets under 50% life he'll start moving faster. Malic will mess with you by using his obnoxious teleport field thing. He'll also summon more minions in melee, but this will just make Lucion stay aggroed for longer. It's not hard once you get used to it. Moonbeam regen and Amazon move speed help a lot.
- As to what Cycles to use, I recommend combat speed and stats to make other gearing easier. Using the larger Cycles is more efficient, but it'll take a while to farm enough of them.
Judgement Day (easy/medium)
- In Sigma, this fight doesn't make me want to kill myself IRL any more! Amazing improvement.
- The angels have different attacks and different summons. Imperius (right portal) has a larger arena and drops nukes, while Malthael has a smaller arena and uses Deathstrike.
- DON'T use summons or a merc, you'll bait more Edyrem spawns.
- The charm upgrade isn't hard but it ultimately depends on how the angels decide to behave and how many Edyrem they spam. Do Imperius first, his fight is less consistent.

- Pure gear check, not much finesse involved.

- While he's in the middle area you can use the pillars for cover or run circles around him and it's not so bad. It gets really shitty when he blinks down one of the long "arms" of the arena. When this happens your only option is to guess where he is, run at him, attack once, then run away out of his range. If he's not where you thought his beam will probably desync and kill you while it's invisible. And then he heals because he killed you.
Kingdom of Shadow/Ureh (very hard)
- It's easy to reach the boss but once we get there he counters this build really hard. TBH I don't have a good strategy for this yet. Shadowstorm keeps us on the run constantly, we don't have an autotarget skill to kill him with and we can't slow/park the Citizens to avoid getting stuck on them.
- Juris' Shadowstorm does cold damage so you can theoretically mitigate it by supermaxing your cold resist. By doing this with enough life you can sort of tank him, but you'll still need to dodge around with teleports to avoid death.
Banisher of Light/Kabraxis (hard)
- Takes some practice. The important thing is to maintain a constant distance so he doesn't Pounce.
- Dodge Balefire and Flamestrike at all costs. If he Pounces, move away so not to get hit by Whirlpool or stuck in his summons.
- Don't get intimidated by his summons or Punisher Barrage! If you back up too much you'll just make it worse. Drink a potion if you get poisoned. As long as you CONSISTENTLY avoid Balefire and Flamestrike you'll be fine.
Athulua (hard)
- With Moonbeam and Spellbind going she can only hurt you with her sparkle arrow thing. But you can get stunlocked by the homing chain arrows until the buffs time out and then you'll die.
- To avoid this, stay close to one of the stone head statues and do rings around it. This will make her stun arrows fall off. She will Tantrum on you every time she loses line of sight so that's your cue to hit her.
- You're fast enough to run away and ditch her if you need to.
Teganze (very easy)
- Since the 1.0.3 change giving the spirits usable corpses, this area is pathetically easy and can be farmed fast. Just don't get broadsided by a ton of balls.
Baal (medium)
- Not much point in fighting him at 120. You won't get anything out of it.
- Can be a long fight or a short one depending on what mood Baal's in. Sometimes he can summon a lot, other times he doesn't.
- DON'T use a merc or summons, it'll make him summon more stuff.
- If Baal summons a Minion/Vision, be smart. Blink away and park him to deal with it one-on-one. The Visions will run away when low on life which can be annoying (except Duriel).
- Baal's only dangerous attacks are his flare nova and Harbinger. If he decides to combo these together and you react too slow he can instakill you, so keep moving and don't get too complacent.
- You have 20 minutes before lockdown, so don't worry about screwing up a couple of times.

- You have two options here. Try to go for Belial himself (fast and chaotic) or try to manage his clones (slow and easy). I suggest being patient and killing the clones.
- Belial can be distinguished from his clones by his red light aura. When he takes damage he'll turn into a rat and be really annoying to track and hit. Spellbind him before attacking then try to namelock him with Enfilade. Don't stand still for too long though, you'll get cometed. Using Fairy Ring on the clone corpses is helpful.
- The only ways you'll die here are by eating a direct hit from a comet or by the Phalanx-style Bloodstar spam attack. This second attack causes knockback and Belial/clones love to cast it when you're on the EDGE of their range. The closer you are to them, the less often they seem to use it, so try to keep them all on screen if you can.
Xazax (medium)
- Be as aggressive as possible and pummel him with Enfilade.
- Spellbind the Penitents to make kiting them easier. Try not to get melee hit by them, they have a huge slow effect.
- Avoid the Glacial Spike Nova, it hurts a lot. Don't be afraid of standing in its blind spots, he can't do much else to threaten you.
- Try not to die or leave the area since it'll prompt Xazax to summon more Penitents.
Toraja (easy)
- Not much to say here other than it's slow and boring as usual. Summon Edyrem, kill a couple of things, summon more.
- Later on we have a better shot at farming this area than some other builds, but we don't have much of a use for the runewords. Sha'ad runes are a fantastic weapon socket filler if you're insane enough to get lots of them.
Astrogha (medium)
- Turn War Spirit off to minimize the chance of accidentally destroying a statue.
- You can tank Darklings indefinitely so wall yourself in with them and carefully chip him to death with Moonbeam. The only threats are your procs accidentally breaking statues or Astro blinking on top of you. It takes a while, but it's better than the alternative.
Vizjun (hard)
- Use Scarab of Deathto get to 100% uninterruptable attack. Get the Tran Athulua trophy to offset the 5% PR loss.Scarab of Death

5% Reanimate as: Random Monster - Slowly crawl around the level spamming Fairy Ring and Enfilade, constantly killing the robots for life sustain and reanimates. Or you can try to run for it, but I don't think that works too well with this build.
- You will need to avoid nukes and minefields. Mines can be potion tanked if you really need to. The other traps aren't a big deal other than spawning more robots.
- By far the worst enemies are the Magineers (laser spam guys) since their pierce effect can hit you through reanimates. If too many of them stack up you'll need to reload, so manage their numbers or run away.
- There is a specific route which works better than the others for me. Advance a little way down the initial path until you reach a minefield, then clear the robots on the other side of the trees to the south-west. Fairy Ring their corpses and blink over. Work your way roughly south-south-east until you reach the north-west outside edge of the promenade thing with the boss at the end of it (you'll need to cross at least one minefield to get there). This outside edge tends to be pretty safe, so you can clear the robots on the other side of the trees, blink over and crawl to the boss.
Spirit World (very hard)
- You need a fully upgraded Umbaru Treasure to use the reward from this boss and even then it has a chance of not being useful. The Treasure is ultimately powerful, but VERY expensive to upgrade. Up to you if you want to do this or not.
- Before you start, make sure to have 100% uninterruptable attack and at least 15.5k-16k life. This will ensure you can potion tank his zombies.
- Also remember to clear the sides of the map and park all of the rats in one of the corners.
- After he blinks on you, namelock him and stay put as long as possible. If he uses his fire nova or starts summoning totems faster than you can get rid of them, blink away and run.
- Wait for your teleport to come off cooldown before you re-engage him or else you might get novaed with no escape.
Yshari Sanctum (hard)
- The labyrinth is very long and confusing but extremely easy besides a few gimmick monsters. The bosses require nothing special to deal with; you can just focus them down with Enfilade and they die fast. Duriel is worth mentioning since he's invulnerable while being tanked, so kite him.
- Maps: stage 1, stage 2, stage 3, stage 4, stage 5.
- The strategy in the boss fight is simple. Run away from Valthek and edge towards him until he blinks on you and summons Guards. Then keep running away and re-aggroing him, only going for damage when he blinks directly on you. You need to be disciplined in doing this since you'll die fast if you stand still near his attacks. If you get close and he does anything BUT blink on you, just run away again. Repeat until dead.
- If you're really having trouble you can respec into full VIT + Wild and Free.
Nymyr's Light/World Nexus/Attana Khan/Witch (medium-hard)
- This is basically a pattern recognition/reflexes fight so your experience may vary depending on your skill at that sort of thing.
- Keep applying slow with weapon attacks/Spellbind to make her easier to hit.
- Dodge the green projectiles and giant nova. The nova can be reliably avoided by teleporting through it. Attana has several recognisable AI patterns; she often spams the same attack repeatedly, then moves for a while, then does something else for a while. Try to take advantage of this to land Purify reliably.
- Try not to stand near the walls since you can get multihit if pushed into them and die instantly.
- If witches are nearby you'll have to avoid their attacks too making the fight slightly more complicated. Their locations are rerolled with each reload so the difficulty can vary a bit from game to game. There's often at least one deserted area to fight in.
Ultra Elementals - key to Fauztinville (hard)
- Oh boy this one's obnoxious to solo. These are the five minibosses found by teleporting behind Kabraxis' area. Each elemental only takes damage from its own element, regens quickly, and summons lesser elementals that make it invulnerable and also only take damage from their own element.
- Basically this means that you need a critical amount of DPS in each specific element in order to kill the bosses, and since our single target damage is kinda poor, this is quite a pain.
- Get your hands on flat elemental damage items and elemental pierce gear like Trishula,Farnham's FlowerpotorFarnham's Flowerpot

- There are also several good elemental conversion oskills but basically all of them are melee and won't appear on javelins.
- Supermax your resists with gems and get 2-3 rows of mana potions.
- Now deal with each boss by standing as close to it as possible and spamming Enfilade. Hopefully this will also kill any new elementals it summons, and hopefully you can do enough damage to very slowly beat its regen.
- The only exception to this is the physical elemental, for which you should try to stand still on the ATMG traps to stop them from killing you.
- The bosses tend not to regen if you TP out, at least in single player.
- If you can't do enough damage, get better gear or more levels and come back later. It took me until level 129 to beat this with Trang-Oul's BreathandTrang-Oul's Breath

Fauztinville (very easy)
- Fauzt itself is really easy and by this point Moonbeam should be healing you faster than you take damage, making it basically impossible to die.
- Killing Necrobots is a chore with cheap gear due to their physical resist. Ignore them or use Spellbind to get rid of them faster. Unseelie Curse proc on rings shines here.
Bremmtown (very hard)
- Doing this in 2 minutes without endgame gear is quite tough, not least due to Enfilade whiffing on the Howling Spirits (they're too small to get hit by the blades). I recommend getting a merc to help tank and clean up stragglers.
- In order to get to the boss in time you'll need to blink over the first wall to the south-west as a shortcut. Doing this will pull LOTS of Spirits on you which you will need to potion tank and start chewing through (get 100% uninterruptable attack). Then move quickly down the street casting Fire Elementals to bait more Spirits out. Take the second SE "alleyway" to the boss.
- This approach may be more or less feasible depending on your gear and the map density you roll, but it's necessary in order to run the level in time.

- Spellbind + target slow + tankiness make this already quite easy boss a complete joke. However the fight can still take upwards of an hour due to Uldy's massive HP pool, even if he's no threat.
- Put all your slows on Uldyssian and walk away from him. This will make him chase you instead of attacking, so all you have to do is line him up and hit him with Purify.
- When he gets to 25% life he'll start running away from you instead. Keep applying slows and get right up in his face to control his movements. You can also easily melee tank him at this point, since he attacks a lot less frequently and doesn't proc his invulnerability as much.
- Make sure to avoid getting him stuck in a corner as he'll start attacking a lot and spamming Edyrem. If he does, you can get him out of there by hitting him with weapon attacks until he blinks away.
