i think the dmg is what everybody goes for and the procs are just a plus. but best probably is time strike or shower of rocks.

A good craft takes some time to roll . you should aim for good +max damage , high % enhanced damage and a weapon damage proc . Unless you have all 3 , keep rolling . Valid options : ctc Shower of Rocks , ctc Widowmaker , ctc knife throw on striking , ATMG sentry is also valid if your build has "life on striking" / other procs on striking (like cryo beam / bear claw from rare quiver)

is a totem considered a minion as far as + minion life, + minion res, +minion dmg is concerned?

Totem Necromancer

All elemental totems are now considered separate summons, and you can have multiple of each.
Totems will now inherit the following stats from the player: spell damage, elemental pierce, energy/strength factor, life after kill and reanimates.

Thanks but its still kind of vague imo.

Are all summons minions?

Totems - they are no minions so no minion stats for them
Every other creature you can summon with your skill/oskill - they are minions so minion stats will apply

best merc for a casting & summoning druid?

anything with slow and Crowd Control, since party buffs from mercs like Bloodlust or MotW you either have better ones yourself or they do nothing because of party buff nerfs...
You can choose between A2 guy with chronofield or A5 merc with nice slow gear on it...
