Opening a town portal takes what? 5 seconds?

Pressing ESC takes even less.
PLUS, what is really matters, it is hard to actually enter portal amongst mobs, becasuse u know why. Yep, cursor never "pick" portal, it would rather "pick" monster. Or nearby item, if no /nopickup enabled.

So in other words, it lets you exploit the game, in a way. Because you would have either died or be forced to leave (implying you were really in such a rush that it couldn't wait 10-15 additional seconds)

No, it does not let me exploit the game. It lets me enjoy the game. Because i can pause whenever i want.

Going to town does exactly that. There really is no legitimate reason to complain so much about this. Drop the "I have a busy life I need to be able to pause anytime" joke, there's no way going to town can take you more than ~30 seconds. If you're complaining because you will need an additional 10-15 seconds to pause the game now, you really should recheck your priorities... Being able to play god and stop time at any time doesn't make much sense, even more in a fast-paced mod like MXL. Only worthy-use reasons are things that could be considered exploiting the game. (leaving before you die for example)

Using tps causes problems, i wrote about it, pressing ESC does not.
Its about convinience, not exploiting.
Hell, disable hotkeys, because u know what? I press the key and needed skill is selected without the need to open LMB/RMB menus. EXPLOIT!! Whant to open inventory? Be my guest, press that triangle-arrow thingy at the bottom of the screen, then find sword icon and press it, no exploits here.
If i really whant to "exploit" the game there are MUCH better ways, so drop "exploit joke".

Better solution would be, in this case, to solve the situation where you CAN'T click on the portal. I had a few cases like that where mobs just clutch it and it doesn't even spawn where you place it, but a few cubes away, due to creep clutch. Most prominent case of that are I think Meeps, the little gargoyle things in act 1 (i forget the correct name, soz). They show up in hordes (and get summoned more by some other creeps later on) and when you are level 5 and just want to get out and do the Lvl0 Challenge, you can't because you''re a noob trapped by a horde of those bastards, you don't want to kill any because you need to stay level 5, and you can't get out because you press to spawn TP, and instead to spawn on you, it spawns just outside of melee range (sometimes even further, bleh).
IMO, I don't see the change to the main menu a big deal, but I would welcome if TP placement would also get fixed. Just for those moments when people get stupid(or, rather, TP gets stupid). And that's just off top of my hat. Same logic applies to situations for other Level challenges (normally, that means you're just stupid for not having a good clear speed, I guess).

If people are exploiting hardcore on Singleplayer, why not let them? Good chance they're cheating anyway. You can't prevent against autotps or chickens. If someone is really concerned about dying, they will just alt + f4 before losing all that progress. You aren't fixing an exploit as much as causing an inconvience.

This is not only to get rid of a few exploits. Trying to stop people from hacking in single player would be pretty dumb (although I still implement a few anti-hacks whenever I can to stop the low level skilled "hackers"). This also forces the fast-paced game mindset that MXL is. It's also a balance measure in some cases. To start off it makes town portal scrolls a little more important. There is also the fact you can't pause to see what's going on and then resume after you thought about what you were going to do. No, now you got to react in real-time. And if you "absolutely" need to take a pause, well then you got to open a tp and go to town. If you're surrounded by enemies, it becomes more or less a balance measure because you can either succeed in opening the TP and retreating to town, die, or leave and lose your progress (if you didn't have tp's left for example)

Complaining about this really is complaining for nothing. It won't change your experience if you play the game the way it's intended.
Players on realm never saw this as an issue, and yet they had to deal with lag (possibly causing delays before the portal opened for example), why would you?

You are not forcing "intendent-fast-paced-game", but causing an inconvience.
Why is that so hard to understand?
Its like blizzard, who would not allow us to see actual HP numbers, or actual resource costs, or actual CDs on skills.
Its a SINGLE player, why would you make MULTI player?
