It's a full version in the sense that it is a new version with new content and/or big changes to some things (XVI) instead of a patch/small update to a current version, which I guess would have been XVd.

Note: Might also be completely wrong. Just my guess.

Every MXL patch is installed over the old one. You never need to keep the old one (unless you want to go back and play it for some reason, ofc).

Median XL works with 1.14a single player and tcp/ip already. You just copy the patch_d2.mpq over.

The server will continue to run 1.13c.

Plugy and D2SE are not 1.14a compatible.

Marco is working on an easy way to downgrade from 1.14a for those who have installed the game via the new installer.

That means it doesnt make any sense to update to 1.14 to play median unless u paly on bnet wich doesnt make sense either since the patch is biggest fail in history.
