I'm trying to do the Triune fight, but the mind control ability doesn't seem to affect Malic. I've tried dropping/picking up the book, rolled a helm with domination, but nothing seems to work. Is there some trick I am missing to be able to mind control him?

Is there a way to check out jewels etc. in an item without using the oil of disjunction? I imagine that there is maybe a hotkey in D2Stats to view the base item without the socket-fillers, as in old maphack for D2 (?).
