NO! It will be exclusively multi-player only! NEVER ask again!

I worry that those runewords will remove a LOT of jewel space if you use multiple runewords! As a cold sorc, ALL of my sockets are filled with either -3% cold resist THAI runes, or Jewels with +15 Spell Focus, +2-4% Cold Damage, and usually +10% cast and +% vitality (on the same jewel). Losing over 50% of your socket space will make you lose a HUGE amount of damage! Removing just one jewel drops my damage by several hundred points. I fear that for caster types, these new runewords will be useless compared to SU's with crafted Jewels in them. That is pretty disappointing.

Not too sure if these changes will accomplish what they were meant to do. A lot of runewords feel like a mess to use because there are almost always better options by the time you get the runes, be it sacred uniques, crafts, or even tiered uniques. There are runewords that offer unique benefits you would want, but those are few and far between. Overall I don't think addressing runewords without addressing the entire item kit accomplishes anything. Couple points specific to the announcement I'd like to raise are

Step 2

My concern here is mostly with Teganze since people farm Fauztinville no matter what. And Toraja is a mess unless you're a summoner. If you make enhanced rune obtainable via world drop and upgrading then Teganze should probably get new rewards. Most of the elemental runewords right now are outclassed by other items. So unless you make elemental runewords significantly more powerful than what they are now then there won't be much of an incentive to farm the area. And this goes back to my original point.

step 3

Looks to be an improvement. Although I do wonder about rare base items like heavy armour or class specific weapons and how much longer it would take to get the correct one with the rolls.

step 4

I'd like to elaborate my point about item kit here. As of now we have a clear path of item progression. You start off with whatever you can find, move on to tiered uniques, then to either set items or crafts and sacred uniques. Runewords and honorific items are there to patch up whatever holes that are left by those primary items. Runewords now have a defined role of being supplementary items. And this makes it fine for a majority of them to be weak or situational.

Judging by what was written in this announcement it looks like you want to make them competitive against the primary items, which I think is the wrong move. As doing so means runewords now compete with crafts and uniques and one of those groups will be made obsolete. Either runewords become so powerful they outclass uniques and crafts to become the new BiS, or they remain the weaker versions and are used as a stop gap. A role that is already filled by either set items or weaker crafts.

I think a better choice is to expand their roles as specialization items that either compliments your primary gear set or are items that shine against specific encounters. Without making them so powerful and well rounded they replace uniques and crafts as the new BiS. And overall we already have too many well rounded items in the kit for specialist items to be used in gearing.

I dig this and look forward to more 'classic' approach towards RW's. While 1-rune RW's are easy to assemble and once you find the highest rune you can make any non-endgame runeword pretty much instantly I felt there was way too much micromanagement with this.

In Laz's era we had duplication recipe that was usable on jewels, but nowadays we do not have one and it's a royal pain to craft several good jewels. Item level reduction with each crafting attempt doesn't help this matter at all. This system is grindy and not fun with the end result being an item with 30 modifiers, half of which are useless (like +3 mana, +1% minion resists etc. - whatever trash mods you rolled on your jewels)

Sure 6 runes seems grindy on their own, but at least the end result is a nice tidy item, similar to a sacred unique.

My thoughts exactly, what about this?

Legitimate concern.I'd also like to know how we're going to be picking/making our socketed bases. With rerolling being limited, preparing bases will be more bound to farming them (which isn't that much of a bad thing,in my opinion),rather than making them.Unless there's some crafting option already planned for it,that is.

The oil of renewal will always provide max sockets. I guess it's worth noting this topic doesn't have the complete list of RW changes and is meant to be more of a teaser / behind the scenes so there's context to the changes once the patch is live.

Cool. But what about
Elemental Dominion
Elemental Dominion
Occult Effigy

Cube Reagent
Cube with a Elemental Melee Weapon to Add Bonus
4% Chance to cast level 5 Life Spark on Melee Attack
+5 Required Level
(Max 2 Uses per Item)
? Some bds need 0 socket base to use it. Maybe keeping oil of renewal always provide 0 socket and leaving the socketing step to players will be better?

Aah, I'm glad that Renewal will result in max socket
