Ice Battle Mage (Cold Sorc)

I am brand new to MXL, so bare with me a bit.

I'm having a really hard time getting resistances up. I really haven't found anything good, and most of the items that drop are magic, so making rune words are not working as well as I'd hope. I'm lvl 40 in Act 4. Am I just underleveled?

if you are in act 4 you can stop there for now, take a step back. Head back to Act 3 and Farm Normal Mephisto for some Tiered Uniques. he will drop 2x Tiered Unqiues each time you kill him. the Tiered Uniques that you do not use or need, you place them in your cube alongside catalyst of disenchantment and transmute them together. You will receive arcane crystals (shards) . Using Arcane Crystals you head to Gheed (Act 1 Normal) Gamble option . Purchase the (base item) of the Tiered Unique (make sure its a Tier 1) , a Oil of Enhancement and 2x Arcane Crystals. You will then gain the Tiered Unique of your choosing.

How do you know an item is a tiered unique? When I killed him, I got a unique labrys (wrath child) and heavy gloves (toorc’s gifts) but I don’t see any indication they are tiered.

Edit. I thought you said tier 2 uniques, my bad. I understand what you mean now. But my lower question still stands. Thanks for your answer earlier!

Also, how does one get a catalyst of destruction? I'll I've found is a catalyst of disenchantment.

Tiered means it has a tier from 1 to 4. For example item name is Labrys (1). Then it means it's tier 1. Labrys (2) means tier 2 and so on. Higher tier - stronger variation of the item.

Surely he meant Catalyst of Disenchantment. You put it in the cube with tiered unique and transmute to receive Arcane Shard.

Thanks! Honestly I wouldn’t know where to find note of those disenchantment things.

Also, I’ve seen the number in the parenthesis. I thought that was sockets. Now I’ll pay more attention.

xD yea you will know if they are Tiered Unique if the Text of the item name is Golden.

Also if you suffer from low resistances, try to get Mystic Orbs (Gheed, Drognan, Alkor, Halbu, Larzuk), one Mystic Orb gives you 7% resist for certain element. Right click the Orb and left click on rings/amulet/quiver of your choice and each orb will add 7% resist. You can put only 5 Mystic Orbs of one type into one item, but beware of required level. Each Orb incrases required level by 4. So if item required level is 20 and your character level is 40, don't use more than 5 Mystic Orbs with that item unless you level up to 44.

Why I call ice elements skills, can't see the summoned ice elements.

You probably have Melee Devotion. That blocks summons, since the skill restricts you to Melee, Buff/Debuff and quest skills (plus the cold skills since those are special cased since they are melee range.) If you want to use Ice Elemental, you will need to respec out of Melee Devotion.

Oh oh, I do + 1 Melee, then I reset once, thank you for your advice
