I dual-wield a hammerhead axe and a claymore (which is Durandal the Blazing Sword). It's working great in so far.
From my intuition, if the weapons can be dual-wieled, then one should do so, rather than using a claymore/giant sword/great sword only by itself.
I roughly estimate that "
2 fpa with
high damage" will be better than "
4 fpa with
very high damage" (
unless the 2h-damage is extremely high, like that of

). I will test more, using a single weapon if that weapon cannot be dual-wielded (e.g. Labrys), but so far I haven't found any to try.
A dedicated 2h weapon (which
cannot be dual-wielded) like the Labrys has quite higher 2h-damage than the 2h-damage of a claymore/giant sword/great sword (which
can be dual-wielded). <<< So using a dedicated 2h weapon should be the case when it is worth using a weapon by itself. But if that weapon can be dual-wielded, then dual-wielding is better.
After all, isn't the ablity to dual-wield claymore/giant sword/great sword/flamberge make Barbarian unique
