My guess is because it would be a huge project with little to no benefit compared to the time cost. It's basically just a reskin.
We are already leaking devs and the game has significantly slowed down in the last few years.

I have to strongly disagree on this. I think any true fan of Median dreams of having Median on D2R. No amount of patching or reworking on this outdated client will ever really compare with D2R. Sure, you'll have diehard fans, and the devs will say otherwise, but that's purely their opinion and nothing more. Even BrotherLaz himself knew that cooking up something with D2R would have been good. Sadly, it seems things came up in his life, and what he started never saw the light of day. If he were still leading this, we would have had Median on D2R, no matter the work required. BrotherLaz was just a different breed in that regard. I'm not sure how anyone could think doing Median on D2R wouldn't pay off. All you have to do is use your brain and realize how long Median has survived on this outdated crap? Now, bringing it over to an updated client basically adds another lifespan's worth of life into Median. I know damn well the player count on here isn't near what they could be on a D2R port.
Pay off for what? Blizzard wouldn't allow a private server and porting all those meme assets (which are themselves ports from other games) is going to be giant pain.
