Yes, I'm not exactly sure about the mechanics (does the bug happen with shield up or only when down), but anything with chance to cause freeze can make them immortal. In your example, cryo beam has freeze I think. I don't know about ice lance.

I don't think an element meant to kill enemies with would null the possible drops. That is unless before broken into melted ice that it changes the current monster ID to one another. If it does not, (Which I don't think it does do this) it should still have an equal chance to drop, If it does, then it should drop equal to of what the ID has capable of dropping. This is just some common sense backed up with general information and possibilities so don't take my word 100%. I was just stating possibilities.

Actually, melee necro really isn't as near as set-reliant as you'd think.
Get either Erawan or Hratli's Craft for some cheap decent body armor, decent jewlery, deadfall and either Kra or Black Cat and you'll be doing just fine
