What is this?
This is the main thread for my unofficial forum themes. A dark theme has been requested many times but Marco and the other forum staff are busy developing and testing other core features right now. I decided to -- hopefully -- help by building these themes.
Since v7b there are two variants available: a dark and a light one. You can chose which one to install via a dropdown menu on userstyles.org page (see step II further down the page).
What does it do?
It changes the visual style of the forum to a clean, flat one. Both a dark and a light variant are present. In the future I may work on a more colorful variant, but we'll see.
It also changes almost every icon to FontAwesome ones, and reduces visual clutter by removing unneded borders, shadows, gradients and whatnot.
Can I have a preview?
Sure thing, have some screens (from v7): 1 2 3 4 5
[spoil=Old screens]v6: 1 2 3 4 5
v2: 1 2 3 4 5 6
v1: 1 2 3 4 5 6[/spoil]
Please note: color quality in these screens may not be representative of the actual product.
How do I use it?
Step I: install a user styles manager
If you use...
- Firefox / Palemoon: install stylish
- Google Chrome / Chromium: install stylish for Chrome
- Opera: install stylish for Opera
- Safari: install stylish for Safari (thanks Will)
- Internet Explorer / Microsoft Edge: I have no idea
Step II: Install the theme
Go here, chose the preset colorscheme from the dropdown menu above the install button (default is Assassin Dark), finally click install.
Step III: Report bugs and provide feedback
With v7b the theme should have reached a near-completion stage (until other forum features are implemented) but nonetheless please report any styling bug, inconsistency or suggestion you may have; that really helps me out.
Notes
I already said it, but I'll reiterate: this theme is not (yet?) officially supported. This means that styling errors due to this theme must not be reported to the forum staff. It also means that if / when stuff in the forum changes, stuff in the theme may break. In that case, do not pester Marco or other forum staff.
To firefox users
Versions from v7 up are completely developed on chrome (well, chromium actually) because firefox's dev tools are inferior. For this reason some things will look slightly different. I try to keep the visual style standard across browsers, but I might miss some things -- or they may not be a priority right now. On the other hand firefox gets the nice selection colors and Cr doesn't, because Cr acts stupid with it.
