What is this?

This is the main thread for my unofficial forum themes. A dark theme has been requested many times but Marco and the other forum staff are busy developing and testing other core features right now. I decided to -- hopefully -- help by building these themes.

Since v7b there are two variants available: a dark and a light one. You can chose which one to install via a dropdown menu on userstyles.org page (see step II further down the page).

What does it do?

It changes the visual style of the forum to a clean, flat one. Both a dark and a light variant are present. In the future I may work on a more colorful variant, but we'll see.
It also changes almost every icon to FontAwesome ones, and reduces visual clutter by removing unneded borders, shadows, gradients and whatnot.

Can I have a preview?

Sure thing, have some screens (from v7): 1 2 3 4 5

[spoil=Old screens]v6: 1 2 3 4 5
v2: 1 2 3 4 5 6
v1: 1 2 3 4 5 6[/spoil]

Please note: color quality in these screens may not be representative of the actual product.

How do I use it?

Step I: install a user styles manager

If you use...

Step II: Install the theme

Go here, chose the preset colorscheme from the dropdown menu above the install button (default is Assassin Dark), finally click install.

Step III: Report bugs and provide feedback

With v7b the theme should have reached a near-completion stage (until other forum features are implemented) but nonetheless please report any styling bug, inconsistency or suggestion you may have; that really helps me out.

Notes

I already said it, but I'll reiterate: this theme is not (yet?) officially supported. This means that styling errors due to this theme must not be reported to the forum staff. It also means that if / when stuff in the forum changes, stuff in the theme may break. In that case, do not pester Marco or other forum staff.

To firefox users

Versions from v7 up are completely developed on chrome (well, chromium actually) because firefox's dev tools are inferior. For this reason some things will look slightly different. I try to keep the visual style standard across browsers, but I might miss some things -- or they may not be a priority right now. On the other hand firefox gets the nice selection colors and Cr doesn't, because Cr acts stupid with it.

I use stylish and dark themes at most of my websites for my eyes sake.

So yes please make this, and do it quick :D

E: Looking at screenshots. It bears similarities with jsps orange dark theme, i like it :)

GG I was waiting for someone to post this. :)

Good job! I'd just suggest changing the forum section header bg color to something other than light gray. Maybe darker gray or something else.

Unique.
Ed: It does work with Stylish for safari. And quite well too!
Ed2: Feedback---> Dark red blends in, so I favor it more for the poster names (under the latest reply), and something a bit more bold/lighter for the sub-forum titles. Personally, I don't mind the forum titles grayness but that's based on what I click on more in all probability. I'll check on more detailed information soon.
B-> The friends tab and message colours under PM's should be changed for 2nd draft of the program. The friends don't show up unless highlighted (as they blend in) and message colors are hard to see.

https://beta-extensions.apple.com/?q=stylish" for those using safari (9.0)

I will add a Screenshot-> (below) if you want to add to your preview images. Good job!

well, whatever floats your boat, but the forum section name background colors are too bright, it's too much of a contrast to the dark background. it's like someone's jabbing you in the eyes. xD

What is a forum section name background? Perhaps the difference is actually a similarity. I'm not sure if you are referring to a sub-forum title as the backgrounds appear to be black for me.

For example above every message is the label above your message. In this instance, it shows; "by Quirinus", (in bold white) & has a white "Re: Food's dark forum theme".

Is this what you are referring to? It is quite white and quite bright (probably too much so).

Edit-> Nevermind, I see the slight difference in pigment. It borders the red... I have a lot more issue with the blaring whites being mushy when I look at them. But I do think a different color then grey would look good. Perhaps blue.

thanks for the feedback guys. Yes, I agree that most colors have too much contrast, as I said I just inverted the normal colors, so the blacks are too black and the whites are too white. I'm working on a standard palette with sass, so that I can change colors in only one place to see global changes, that'll make balancing easier.

Expect a second draft soon.

I'll check and fix this ASAP.

@Quiri, Yeah I realized that later so I edited my message. What do you think of the bold white versus the grey?

In the future I think I'll crop a photo and maybe add an arrow for proper tech support items :)
