But it's doable, if you want the challenge. For me, my first character was an assassin and I've stuck with it all the way through every uber. Only ubers I did first on another character were Kabraxis and Bremmtown (to get a feel for them and Chronofield is OP on Kabraxis for learning). Even without charms, tolerable defense, much higher block, much higher dodge is possible with tolerable damage... you just have to be willing to actually follow the gear upgrading path and not expect to jump from t5rares/t6U to SSSUs loaded with Inarius'. Have to actually farm for some gear and keep rolling crafts until you get the %dex you need and such.

and decent crafts with mostly damage rolls, and you can totally ignore your Hit Recovery and Block speed because you never stop attacking and it's 100% uninterruptable (while still allowing you to block and avoid just fine). Being uninterruptable with a full set of leech jewels will keep you alive just fine, though it's a pretty terrible idea against most heroic bosses
