You shouldn't need a specific SU for your build to not feel clunky and annoying to play.
Your frustration is understandable but there is depth to the skill and meaning to having it not be 100% uptime. If you haven't figured it out already, casting Idol has an animation which can be easily interrupted when attacked by many mobs at once. This means you cannot brainlessly afk your character in the middle of everything and need to learn when to get in position during Idol and out of position when Idol is about to end.
in short, get good because things that are 'annoying' are usually a product of or lack of individual skill or thought. Not saying you specifically. I would say you should be thankful for having Idol not have a longer cooldown but you're a newer player and I cannot fault you for having a different opinion. Rather your feedback is probably appreciated by the devs but just don't get your hopes up on this skill being changed to your liking.
I'm not new, I just never made a new account when we lost the old forums. I didn't come here for advice or to complain about being weak. My werebear is clearing the game just fine.
With all that being said, it's a flawed skill. Compare to other short defensive buffs like Moon Strike, Shadow Refuge, Titan Strike. These all have short durations but they are still at least twice as long as Idol and have no cooldown meaning you can keep them up if you're diligent. If everyone's favorite melee sorceress suddenly had to fuck off all the time to wait for their moonstrike cooldown, people would be very annoyed.
You can build a werebear to be plenty powerful without even casting Idol, but since it's one of the trees only two buttons, I want it to be useful. Idol gives a ton of defensive stats so to make use of it you should be building more glass cannon than usual. But because of the weird uptime you end up playing hit and run which is not fun and doesn't really fit the class fantasy of being a big tanky bear.
Instead of looking at my post count and instantly siding with the mod, please actually consider what I'm saying and give me a reason why you think this is a well-designed skill.
